Omega Fire™: Specs and Uses
Uses:
Tested for use directly on structural steel to give a two or three hour fire rating, depending on thickness applied. Extra thickness gives extra hourly fire protection.
Application:
Although Omega Fire™ can be applied by non-professionals, SPI recommends using a SPI certified applicator.
Preparation:
- Surface must be clean and completely dry, with no loose debris or particles, rust, dirt, oil, films or residues of any kind. Omega Fire™ will cover previous coatings if they are fully adhered to the surface and show no surface gloss
- Mechanically stir, as ceramics will tend to settle
Application methods:
- Graco Extreme King (3,500 psi or more) with a carbon steel or titanium tip: tip size .029-.045; build to desired thickness
- Graco TexSpray RTX 1500 using the 2 mm nozzle that comes with the machine. Surface texture is rougher than with the Extreme King.
Applied rate:
- 1 hour fire rating - 3 sq. ft./gal. (0.25 sq.m./gal.)
- 3 hour fire rating - 2.2 sq. ft./gal. (0.20 sq.m./gal.)
Film thickness:
- 1 hour fire rating - Wet: 570 mils (14.5 mm) Dry: 400 mils (10 mm)
- 2 hour fire rating - Wet: 710 mils (18 mm) Dry: 500 mils (12.5 mm)
Dry times:
- 4 hour to touch
- 12 hours to overcoat at 70 degrees F
Full cure:
