Mastic Sealing Tape: Specs and Uses

Uses:

  • Used for steel buildings, grain bin bases, mobile home seams, air filtration, foundations, decks, earth sheltered houses and many other waterproofing problems
  • Mastic Sealing Tape is applied after Rust Grip® is primed over the metal seams
  • Tape must be overcoated with Super Base (HS) to seal before overcoating the roof with Super Therm®
  • Combined with Super Therm® and Enamo Grip to create a monolithic (no seam) roofing system that is tough, insulates, ponds water effectively, and bounces hail off without damage

Application:

Although Mastic Sealing Tape can be applied by non-professionals, SPI recommends using a SPI certified applicator.

Preparation:

  • Surface must be clean and COMPLETELY DRY, with no loose debris or particles, rust, dirt, oil, films or residues of any kind. Mastic Sealing Tape covers previous coatings if they are fully adhered to the surface
  • If surface is cool or cold, must use a torch to warm adhesive area (40 degrees F) and immediately apply the tape to this area.

Application methods:

  • Simply remove the covering off the back of Mastic Sealing Tape to expose the adhesive backing. Then apply over the surface taking care to completely cover seams and cracks and push out air

Temperature:

  • 41 degrees F (5 degrees C) or above

Limitations:

  • Mastic Sealing Tape is not intended as an exposed surface and must be completely covered after application
