Enamo Grip: Specs and Uses

Uses:

  • Topcoat over Rust Grip® to offer color tinting or to give additional protection and durability for the substrate.
  • Topcoat over Super Therm® to give additional protection and durability for a substrate or to protect against water ponding when applied over rigid surfaces such as metal or concrete.
  • Seal against breathing moisture/gases and protect against weathering and acid/solvent contact.
  • Anti-graffiti protection for surfaces. Applied and cured, Enamo Grip (clear) can resist the permanent damage of vandalism.
  • Vehicle and equipment finishes.
  • Protect against UV, wear, weathering, and moisture penetration.
  • Flooring, especially when combined with anti-slip elements.
  • Tested/approved under ASTM as a "water barrier" for concrete blocks and masonry.

Application:

Although Enamo Grip can be applied by non-professionals, SPI recommends using a SPI certified applicator.

Preparation:

  • Surface must be clean and completely dry, with no loose debris or particles, rust, dirt, oil, films or residues of any kind. ENAMO GRIP will cover previous coatings if they are fully adhered to the surface.
  • Mechanically stir base.
  • Mix curing agent into base and let sit for 30 minutes before applying (higher ambient temperatures will shorten pot life – if ambient temperature is above 85º F, begin to apply immediately after mixing).

Application methods:

  • Airless or pot sprayed: tip size .015 - .019; apply in two coats
  • Roller: use 1/4" nap commercial roller; apply in two coats using an added bubble breaker in formula
  • Brush: use soft bristle brush; apply in two coats
  • Add an additional coat for vertical surfaces

Applied rate:

  • Metal: 250 sq. ft./gal. (23 sq.m./gal.)
  • Concrete or wood: 200 sq. ft./gal. (18.5 sq.m./gal.)

Film thickness:

  • Wet: Metal - 6.5 mils (165 microns)
    Concrete - 8 mils (200 microns)
  • Dry: Metal - 3 mils (76 microns)
    Concrete - 4 mils (100 microns)

Temperature:

  • 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) – 100 degrees F (38 degrees C)
  • Colder temperatures will increase dry time

Dry times:

  • 1 hour to touch
  • 4 hours to handle
  • 2 hours to recoat

Full cure:

  • 4-5 days in warm temps
  • 7-10 days in cool temps

Precautions:

  • 4 hour pot life at 70 degrees F
  • 1 hour pot life at 90 degrees F
  • Strong odor during application and initial curing

Limitations:

  • Not intended for use on food preparation surfaces that are in direct contact with food
  • Do not apply over wet or moist surfaces. Surfaces must be clean and dry
  • 6 to 8 hour pot life in normal ambient temperatures. 1 to 1.5 hour pot life in temperatures above 85 degrees F
